Heyooo, Dave’s up all the way from Portland and here to have a nice evening sit-down with us for a quite memorable conversation.
How that all the hype has settled down and players/owners of the game have had, I think, ample time to explore a million planets, lets hear what you think!
I ran across this video which lists off 10 things that just don’t make sense in the game.
Reading through some of the comments I saw one that stood out to me and it is pretty much how I feel about ALL hyped up games. Now, in Hello Games’ defense, I will say that the game wasn’t necessarily over hyped by the company itself (maybe it was, I have no way of knowing for sure) more rather it was definitely over hyped by gamers with high expectations. The concept is not new nor is it that original. Essentially, the game is a virus that keeps spreading.
I will have to make my list later. For now, I want to know what you LIKE or DISLIKE about the game.
I came across Wiru (Will Vandomu/ウィル ヴァンドム) on Worldcosplay.net and I was really impressed by how many characters were done by one person. Will started out cosplaying in high school after a friend asked them to join a cosplay event and ever sincee they were “attracted to this world”. Although it is a hobby, I could have mistaken this for a job, and I’ll be honest, I first thought it WAS their job. Wiru truly looks like a professional.
So after about a month after playing The Last of Us, the whole game has been on my mind. Just today I was discussing a pretty heavy hitting topic with my photography students about “Work that matters” and I had this epiphany. Now, to catch you up a little as to what I’m actually talking about, please check out this little video…
And I asked my students “where would I see work that matters and what can it be exactly?” at that point I had my epiphany, can “Work that matters” be completely hypothetical? So I posed them this question and thought of The Last of Us, because the way I feel about that game and the concept IS important and it DOES matter to me. Here is a great video by Jake from vSauce3 that really takes that hypothetical and turns it into a scary possible reality.
Technology has come such a long ways and our story telling ability has evolved to a whole new level and really push some amazing boundaries. I am an outspoken fan of the Souls series (Demons Souls, Dark Souls 1, 2, 3, and Bloodborne) because of their UNTOLD story or their non spoon fed story. But on the other side of the spectrum you have The Last of Us which IS spoon fed but in a very good way and the reason it is so successful is the absolutely great acting, character, and character development.
This is absolutely work that matters. There is a lot of morally, ethically, emotionally deep content that is built on nothing more but the possibility of something being a reality. There is even a lesson to be taught using nothing but hypotheticals. I’m seeing the world go towards the direction of “based on true events” and honestly I’m starting to care less and less about those releases. I still hold on to the belief that the human imagination is still a powerful and important tool in the creation process and honestly, it’s proven multiple times over with great game title releases.
What do you think? Let me know below.
I’ve always wanted to do a My Favorite Cosplay article but instead of doing simple little “here’s a picture and there’s a picture” I’m going to show you the people behind the cosplay. These models are truly amazing because they take fandom to a whole new level. They may not play the games or be good at them at all, but that’s not the point with Cosplay. Cosplay is about capturing the characters image as accurately as possible (some would argue me with that) but it’s true! Everyone is always blown away by the cosplayer that LOOKS like the real character! So what I’ve done is listed off some really talented Cosplayers who, I think, fully embody the essence of what they were trying to achieve. If they were traditional artists using graphite, they would be at the hyper realism level.
And honestly, who DOESN’T like to check out amazing cosplay?
I will start with Kilory. Mainly because when I first saw the photo below, I thought it was a screenshot of one of the Final Fantasy 13 games. She looks STRIKINGLY like Lightning, it’s uncanny! I see a lot of cosplayers totally go buck wild with the makeup and make themselves look like clowns, but she nailed it. Check her out!

We wanted to break away from the traditional top 5 list and simply talk about our selection of perfectly hyped games and series. There are honestly too many to talk about within the time limit so these are the best we could do.
